وَأَحمِيَand withhold عَنfrom عَينيmy eye لَذيذَthe sweetness of مَناميmy sleep
وَأَحمِيَ عَن عَيني لَذيذَ مَنامي
And I must strive for the highest rank,
I must strive for the highest rank,
and deny my eye the sweetness of my sleep,
And protect my eyes from sweet sleep.
وَأَقتَحِمَand plunge into الأَمرَthe undertaking الجَسيمَformidable بِحَيثُin such a way أَنthat
وَأَقتَحِمَ الأَمرَ الجَسيمَ بِحَيثُ أَن

أَرى المَوتَ خَلفي تارَةً وَأَمامي
and plunge into the formidable undertaking, so that
And plunge into mighty deeds, so that
I see death now behind me, now before me.
I see death behind me at times, and before me at others.

Then either I attain a station around which Glory pitches
Either I will reach a position circled by glory,
its pavilion, or Glory weeps for my death.
Or weeping for my doves.

فَكَم حَسَراتٍ في نُفوسِ كِرامِ
For if I do not reach a station I seek,
If I do not attain the position I wish,
then how many regrets lie in the souls of the noble!
How many regrets in the souls of noblemen!
