The abode of sovereignty is a protected swordsmanship
The Kāmil meter.

Sovereignty's anchorage is a Sayfian portal,
A sword that gladdens you, its sheath and unsheathing
guarded and auspicious in its founding.
For an evening of Yūsuf and capturing souls
سَيفٌa sword يَسُرُّكَdelights you سُلُّهُunsheathing it وَسُؤالهُand petitioning him

A sword: unsheathing it and petitioning him delight you,
It surpassed the elite with conduct and path
for causing distress [yūsī: unclear as written] and taking souls.
Two envied traits as it walked like a chief
سَبقَhe outstripped السَراةَthe nobles بِسيرَةٍin conduct وَسَريرَةٍand inward character

He outstripped the nobles in conduct and inward character,
Its path was virtuous, its lineage sacred
both envied, and followed a leader's course.
And it ascended with ancestors, elite horsemen
حَسُنَتwas fair سَريرَتُهُhis inward character قُدّسَwas hallowed سِنخُهُhis stock

His inward character was fair; his stock was hallowed,
Ancestors of masters, it ascended their session
and he rose through noble, proud forebears.

Forebears, lords, whose sitting exalted
Had they ruled and renewed with intelligence, no
the head of the throne and the chair of teaching.
Repealed inscription of its studied design

And even if they ruled and revived generosity—
They instituted generosity so their asking exceeded
abolished, its worn traces effaced—
Thus their benevolence was harm with the weak

they instituted largesse, and their petitioners grew extravagant;
And the flowing train of clouds is likened
so their beneficence was harm to the pale camels.
To its magnanimity and hail of the heathen
وَيَسُرُّand delights سارِيَةَa night-roaming one السَحابِof the clouds قِياسُهاcomparing it

The night-roaming cloud delights in being compared
While the clouds withhold, I cannot compare them
with his generosity and his gushing bounty.
To torrents of hail to the reserved clouds

And the clouds withhold their rain, so I do not compare them
A delight to eloquent tongues, an evening that
with torrents of bounty that hold the clouds in check.
Surpassed the horses of night and the wise

Thus joy for the famine-stricken is hardship
I glimpsed from the veils of its crown a radiance
that first befell his grazing herds and the purse.

I glimpsed, from the curtains of his portal, the radiance
I quenched it with a chain of sorcerous wine
of a firebrand; so I led a precious one to a precious man.
Intoxicating to listeners, I offered it as a bride

the radiance of your name clothed in the finest attire.
