أَبُثُّكَI confide to you ماwhat لَقيتُI have suffered مِنَfrom اللَياليthe nights
أَبُثُّكَ ما لَقيتُ مِنَ اللَيالي
فَقَدfor indeed قَصَّتhave clipped نَوايِبُهاtheir calamities جَناحيmy wing
فَقَد قَصَّت نَوايِبُها جَناحي
I confide to you what I have suffered from the nights;
I whisper to you what I suffered through the nights
For indeed their calamities have clipped my wing.
Their woes have clipped my wings
وَكَيفَand how يُفيقُrecovers مِنfrom عَنَتِthe hardship of اللَياليthe nights
وَكَيفَ يُفيقُ مِن عَنَتِ اللَيالي

مَريضٌ لا يَرى وَجهَ الصَلاحِ
And how can he recover from the nights’ hardship—
And how can one wake from the tribulation of nights
A sick man who does not see the face of well-being?
A sick man who cannot see the face of remedy
