    سَأَشكُرُها شُكرَ الرِياضِ يَدَ القَطرِ

    Your apparition has shown me a kindness I shall not neglect;

    I shall thank it as gardens thank the hand of rain.

    It braved the terrors of night travel, undeterred

    by anything fearsome and unafraid of a desolate wilderness,

    in a land whose wastes bewilder the caravan,

    though the travelers' guide there is the dusky sandgrouse.

    May God watch over the days that passed near you,

    and the time of youth—ah, what a lovely time that was!

    For all my days with you are festivals,

    and every night with you is the Night of Decree.
