    And a bough of the bān tree—all people's hearts

    are imperiled by him if he sways or saunters.

    He appeared, and the sight of him revealed a moon to us,

    with beauty in him that has vanquished reason.

    He is the gazelle, yet I marveled at him—

    that he fled from the doe—the sun—when she visited him.

    And he remained concealed from her and veiled

    from her, though their light had shone among the people.

    فَالشَمسُ لا يَنبَغي أَن تُدرِكَ القَمَرا

    So I said, “Enough! Do not fear your meeting;

    for the sun is not to overtake the moon.”
