لَيتَ هذا الصِّيامَ دامَ لَنا

لَيتَ هذا الصِّيامَ دامَ لَنا

عاماً وَعاماً بَل لَيتَهُ أَلفَ عامِ

عاماً وَعاماً بَل لَيتَهُ أَلفَ عامِ

Would that this fast had lasted for us

Would that this fasting lasted for us

year after year—nay, would that it had lasted a thousand years!

A year and another—nay, would that it lasted a thousand years!

إِنَّ شَهراً كُنا نَرى كُلَّ يَوم

إِنَّ شَهراً كُنا نَرى كُلَّ يَوم

فيهِ وَجهَ الإِمامِ وَاِبنَ الإِمامِ

فيهِ وَجهَ الإِمامِ وَاِبنَ الإِمامِ

Indeed, a month in which every day we saw

Indeed, a month—we used to see every day

the face of the Imam and the son of the Imam

Within it the face of the Imam and the Imam's son—

لَحَقيقٌ أَن لا نَزالُ عَلَيهِ

لَحَقيقٌ أَن لا نَزالُ عَلَيهِ

كاسِفي البالِ ظاهِري التَّهمامِ

كاسِفي البالِ ظاهِري التَّهمامِ

surely deserves that, on its account, we remain

Surely merits our always remaining, on its account,

downcast in spirit and visibly emaciated.

Downcast in spirit, with our sorrow plain to see.

لَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَن يَرى أَحَدا أَو

لَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَن يَرى أَحَدا أَو

لي بِها مِنكَ مِن جَميعِ الأَنامِ

لي بِها مِنكَ مِن جَميعِ الأَنامِ

May God curse whoever deems anyone more enti—

May God curse whoever deems anyone more

—tled to it than you, among all humankind.

Deserving of it than you among all mankind.

لَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَن يَعُدُّ سِوى رَأ

لَعَنَ اللَّهُ مَن يَعُدُّ سِوى رَأ

يكَ عَونا لَهُ عَلى الأَيّامِ

يكَ عَونا لَهُ عَلى الأَيّامِ

May God curse whoever counts anything but your coun—

May God curse whoever counts anything but

—sel as help to him against the vicissitudes of time.

Your counsel as his aid against the days.
