أَتَعزِفُ أم تُقيمُ عَلى التَّصابي

أَتَعزِفُ أم تُقيمُ عَلى التَّصابي

فَقَد كَثُرَت مُناقَلَةُ العِتابِ

فَقَد كَثُرَت مُناقَلَةُ العِتابِ

Will you desist, or persist in youthful dalliance?

Do you shun or stay aloof from pleasure?

For the exchange of reproaches has grown frequent.

For blame for shunning pleasure has increased

إِذا ذُكِرَ السُّلوُّ عَنِ التَّصابي

إِذا ذُكِرَ السُّلوُّ عَنِ التَّصابي

نَفَرتَ مِن اِسمِهِ نَفرَ الصِّعابِ

نَفَرتَ مِن اِسمِهِ نَفرَ الصِّعابِ

When letting go of youthful dalliance is mentioned,

When abstinence from pleasure is mentioned

You shy away from its name like untamed mounts.

You recoil from its name like the rugged mountainside

وَكَيفَ يُلامُ مِثلُكَ في التَّصابي

وَكَيفَ يُلامُ مِثلُكَ في التَّصابي

وَأَنتَ فَتى المَجانَةِ وَالشَّبابِ

وَأَنتَ فَتى المَجانَةِ وَالشَّبابِ

And how can one like you be blamed for youthful dalliance,

How can one blame the likes of you for shunning pleasure

While you are a young man of wantonness and youth?

You, the epitome of generosity and youth

سَأَعزِفُ إِن عزَفت عَنِ التَّصابي

سَأَعزِفُ إِن عزَفت عَنِ التَّصابي

فَأَغرَتني المَلامَةُ بِالتَّصابي

فَأَغرَتني المَلامَةُ بِالتَّصابي

I shall desist if you desist from youthful dalliance,

I will abstain if you shun pleasure

For reproach has enticed me into youthful dalliance.

So blame has enticed me to seek pleasure
