خَلَوتُI withdrew بِنَفسيwith myself فيكabout you مِنfrom بَينِهِمamong them وَحديalone
When people are engrossed in talk and wishes,
When people talked and wished around me,
I withdraw from among them, alone with myself, thinking of you.
I was alone with you in their midst, alone.
أحيدُI turn aside بِنَفسيwith myself عَنكِaway from you عَمداًdeliberately وَفيand in الحشاthe breast
إِلَيكtoward you عُيونٌeyes ماnot بَرِحنَthey have strayed عَنِfrom القَصدِthe aim
I deliberately turn myself away from you, yet within my breast
I intentionally distract myself from you,
are eyes turned toward you, never straying from their aim.
Yet my eyes keep looking to you constantly.
فَياso O مَنone who بِكَفَّيهِin his two hands حَياتيmy life وَمُنيَتيand my wish

So, O you whose two hands hold my life and my wish,
O you, in whose hands is my life and death,
and whom I cannot do without, even if I die,
For whom I have nothing if I pass away,
أَرِحنيgive me relief مِنfrom نَفسيmyself بِمَوتwith a death مُعَجَّلhastened
فَديتُكَmay I be your ransom أَوor نائيkeep away الفُؤادَthe heart مِنَfrom الجَهدِanguish
release me from myself with a hastened death—
Relieve me of myself with a quick death,
may I be your ransom—or keep the heart far from anguish.
I sacrifice myself for you, or give rest to my heart from effort.
