ياO مَنwho رَأىsaw صورَةًa form فاقَتsurpassed عَلىabove الصُّوَرthe forms
ياO مَنwho رَأىsaw قَمَراًa moon أَبهىmore radiant مِنَthan القَمَرِthe moon
O you who have seen a form surpassing all forms,
O you who saw a figure transcending figures
O you who have seen a moon more radiant than the moon!
O you who saw a moon fairer than the moon
تُخيلَتshe was envisioned حاسِراًbareheaded حَتَّىuntil إِذاwhen حَسَرَتshe unveiled herself

She was envisioned bareheaded, until, when she unveiled herself,
You imagined it unveiled until when it was unveiled
Disdain said to her, “You there, cover yourself!”
The rocks said to it, "O you, be covered!"
فَأَبرَزَتso she brought out رَدناًa sleeve وَارَتshe concealed مَحاسِنَهاher charms
بِفَضلِهِwith its surplus وَأَزاحَتand she drove away عازِبَwandering الخَصرِthe chill
So she brought out a sleeve and concealed her charms
So it brought out a cheek and concealed its graces
with its surplus cloth, and drove away the wandering chill.
By His bounty and removed the waist wrapper

She slept; I spent the night watching the star, propped on my elbow.
It slept while the starry flocks were trembling
O Haml’s sleep, are you not ashamed of my sleeplessness?
O sleep, how could you, don't you feel ashamed before my wakefulness
