ياO أَيُّهاyou المَأفونُthe feeble-minded رَأياًin judgment لَقَدindeed
يا أَيُّها المَأفونُ رَأياً لَقَد
تَعَرَّضَتbecame exposed نَفسُكَyourself لِلمَوتِto death
تَعَرَّضَت نَفسُكَ لِلمَوتِ
Not so fast, you addled fool—for indeed
O you whose judgment is feeble, indeed,
you have exposed yourself to death.

قَيَّرتُمُyou coated with pitch الملكَthe kingdom فَلَمand did not تَنتَهواyou desist
قَيَّرتُمُ الملكَ فَلَم تَنتَهوا
حَتّىuntil غَسَلناwe washed away القارَthe pitch بِالزَّيتِwith oil
حَتّى غَسَلنا القارَ بِالزَّيتِ
You smeared the kingdom with pitch and would not stop
You coated the kingdom with pitch and did not desist
until we washed the pitch away with oil.

الزَّيتُthe oil لاdoes not يُزرىdetract بِأَحسابِناfrom our noble ancestry
الزَّيتُ لا يُزرى بِأَحسابِنا

أَحسابُنا مَعروفَةُ البَّيتِ
Oil does not diminish our ancestral honor;
