لَم أَنسَ حُسنَ المَوقِفِ

لَم أَنسَ حُسنَ المَوقِفِ

وَعَلامَةَ النَّظَرِ الخَفي

وَعَلامَةَ النَّظَرِ الخَفي

I have not forgotten the beauty of that encounter,

I have not forgotten the beauty of the moment

Nor the signal of the furtive glance.

Nor the secret glance that signals your affection

فَإِذا أَرَدتُ وَداعَها

فَإِذا أَرَدتُ وَداعَها

قالَت مَحاسِنُها قِفِ

قالَت مَحاسِنُها قِفِ

So whenever I wished to bid her farewell,

When I bid you farewell, your charms implore me to stay

Her charms said, "Stay."

So I answer, I cannot yet take my leave

فَأَجَبتُ لَستُ بِبارِح

فَأَجَبتُ لَستُ بِبارِح

مِن حَسرَةٍ وَتَلَهُّفِ

مِن حَسرَةٍ وَتَلَهُّفِ

So I answered, "I am not leaving,"

For I pine and yearn in sorrow

Out of anguish and yearning.

It is your love that has purified my passion

بِهَواكِ صافيتُ الجَوى

بِهَواكِ صافيتُ الجَوى

وَعَرَفتُ ما لَم أَعرِفِ

وَعَرَفتُ ما لَم أَعرِفِ

Through love for you, I befriended heartache,

And taught me what I did not know

And learned what I had not known.
