His spring dwelling made the youth weep after his companions had left.

And the anguish it stirred in his heart nearly struck him down.

Until his tears streamed like pearls.

And love is a sickness that will soon strike him down.

His weeping lasted long—if only that could help him—

Out of love for one he satisfies and who satisfies him.

God made her enamored of him, and him of her.

So he does not shun her, nor does she cut him off.

She is not like one whom he deceives and who deceives him,

Whom he entices with false hopes, and who entices him.

But from him she has union in its fullness.

So one bed is both her bed and his.

He lifts her at times, and at times she lifts him.

May God gather her with him when she dies.
