أَقولُI say إِذwhen غَيَّبوكَthey hid you away وَاِصطَفَقَتand gathered together
أَقولُ إِذ غَيَّبوكَ وَاِصطَفَقَت
عَلَيكَover you أَيدٍhands بِاللَّبنِwith mud bricks وَالطِّينِand clay
عَلَيكَ أَيدٍ بِاللَّبنِ وَالطِّينِ
I say, as they hid you away and there gathered
over you hands bearing mud bricks and clay:
اِذهَبgo فَنِعمَfor an excellent الحَفيظِguardian كُنتَyou were عَلىover الدthe (beginning of “world”)
اِذهَب فَنِعمَ الحَفيظِ كُنتَ عَلى الد
دُنياworld وَنِعمَand an excellent الظَّهيرُsupporter لِلدِّينِfor the faith
دُنيا وَنِعمَ الظَّهيرُ لِلدِّينِ
Go, for you were a fine guardian of the
world, and a fine supporter of the faith.
لَنwill not يُجبِرَmake whole اللَّهُGod أمةًa nation فَقَدَتhas lost
لَن يُجبِرَ اللَّهُ أمةً فَقَدَت
مِثلَكَone like you إلَّاexcept بِمِثلِwith one like هارونِHarun
مِثلَكَ إلَّا بِمِثلِ هارونِ
God will not make whole a nation that has lost
one like you, except with one like Harun.
