إِذا ظَمِيا يا روح مِن سُكرَةِ الخَمرِ
Love's intoxication is surely more thirst-quenching for my bone and my joint,
I will drink the sweet wine of love to nourish my bones and joints
when both grow thirsty, O Ruh, than the intoxication of wine.
When my soul is parched from the intoxication of wine
وَاحسِنand lovelier مِنthan رَجعِthe echo المَثانيthe paired strings دفقهاtheir flow
وَاحسِن مِن رَجعِ المَثاني دفقها
مَراجيعrecurring strains نَغمmelodies الثَّغرِof the mouth يقرَعُstrikes بِالثَّغرِagainst the mouth
مَراجيع نَغم الثَّغرِ يقرَعُ بِالثَّغرِ
And lovelier than the paired strings' echoing flow
And the flowing stream from the spring flows more beautifully
are the recurring melodies of a mouth striking against a mouth.
The melody of the lips knocks on the lips
