ما وَقَعَ العَبَّاسُ في مِثلِها

ما وَقَعَ العَبَّاسُ في مِثلِها

بُعدا وَإِرغاماً لِعَبَّاسِ

بُعدا وَإِرغاماً لِعَبَّاسِ

Never has al-Abbas fallen into the like of this.

Al-‘Abbas has never fallen into anything like this.

Away with al-Abbas—and humiliation upon him!

Banishment and humiliation upon ‘Abbas!

يُريدُ أَن يَأخُذَها عَنوَةً

يُريدُ أَن يَأخُذَها عَنوَةً

عَذَرتُ لَو كانَ مِنَ النَّاسِ

عَذَرتُ لَو كانَ مِنَ النَّاسِ

He wants to seize her by force;

He wants to take her by force.

I might excuse him, were he one of humankind.

I would have excused him, had he been human.
