مُسِخَت بِرذَونَ أَدهَمْ
A singing slave girl who used to sing
A dove she was, singing
Was transformed into a jet-black packhorse.
Transformed to one with cheeks auburn
عِجتُI turned aside بِالساباطِat the covered passageway يَوماًone day
عِجتُ بِالساباطِ يَوماً
فَإِذاand behold القينَةُthe singing slave girl تُلجَمْis being bridled
فَإِذا القينَةُ تُلجَمْ
One day I turned aside at the covered passageway,
At Sabaat I wondered one day
And behold, the singing girl was being bridled.
Only to find the dove was bridled
