أَبلِغconvey دَعِيَّthe pretender إِيادٍIyad إِنif مَرَرتَyou pass بِهِby him
أَبلِغ دَعِيَّ إِيادٍ إِن مَرَرتَ بِهِ
قَولَthe words اِمرِئٍa man ناصِحsincerely devoted لِلَّهِto God وَالدِّينِand the faith
قَولَ اِمرِئٍ ناصِح لِلَّهِ وَالدِّينِ
Convey to the pretender of Iyad, if you pass by him,
Convey to Iyad my message if you pass by him,
the words of a man sincerely devoted to God and the faith.
The words of a sincere counselor to Allah and the religion.
لَنwill not تَصلُحَbe set right الأَرضُthe earth ماas long as أُسكِنتَyou are lodged upon ظاهَرَهاits surface
لَن تَصلُحَ الأَرضُ ما أُسكِنتَ ظاهَرَها
وَلاnor تَرىit sees العَدلَjustice أَوuntil تَلحَقَyou catch up بِأَفشَينِwith Afshin
وَلا تَرى العَدلَ أَو تَلحَقَ بِأَفشَينِ
The earth will not be set right so long as you dwell upon its surface,
The land will not prosper as long as you inhabit its surface,
nor will it see justice until you join Afshin.
Nor will you see justice or join the virtuous.
ماnot زِلتَyou have ceased تحضرyou come forward لِلخذلانِfor betrayal عنout of دَغَلٍmalice
ما زِلتَ تحضر لِلخذلانِ عن دَغَلٍ
فيin القَلبِthe heart مِنكَof yours لِهذاagainst this الدِّينِfaith مَكنونِhidden
في القَلبِ مِنكَ لِهذا الدِّينِ مَكنونِ
You have never ceased coming forward for betrayal, out of malice
You persist in preparing failure through the deceit
hidden in your heart against this faith.
Harbored secretly against this religion in your heart.
وَكُنتَand you were فيin ذاكَthat لَناto us لَمّاwhen أَنthat قَصَدتُI aimed لَهُat it
وَكُنتَ في ذاكَ لَنا لَمّا أَن قَصَدتُ لَهُ
كَالعَنزِlike a she-goat إِنif بَحَثتَyou searched عَنfor حَدِّthe edge سِكّينِa knife
كَالعَنزِ إِن بَحَثتَ عَن حَدِّ سِكّينِ
And in that, when I aimed at it, you were to us
And you were to us, when I set out to it,
like a she-goat, if you searched for the edge of a knife.
Like a nanny goat if you look for the edge of a knife.
نَحنُwe الَّذينَthe ones who إِذاwhen عُدَّis reckoned العَفافُchastity يُرىis seen
نَحنُ الَّذينَ إِذا عُدَّ العَفافُ يُرى
فيناamong us العَفافُchastity وَمَأوىand a refuge كُلِّevery مِسكينِneedy person
فينا العَفافُ وَمَأوى كُلِّ مِسكينِ
We are the ones: when chastity is reckoned, one sees
We are those who, when chastity is counted,
among us chastity, and a refuge for every needy person.
Chastity and shelter of every poor person are seen in us.
