طَرفٌan eye تَرَقرَقَwelled up بِالدَّمِwith blood
طَرفٌ تَرَقرَقَ بِالدَّمِ
بَعدَafter الدُّموعِthe tears السُّجَّمِstreaming
بَعدَ الدُّموعِ السُّجَّمِ
An eye welled up with blood
after streaming tears.
اللَّهُGod يَعلَمُknows أَنَّنيthat I
اللَّهُ يَعلَمُ أَنَّني
أَهوىlong for وِصالَكِunion with you فَاِعلَميso know
أَهوى وِصالَكِ فَاِعلَمي
God knows that I
long for union with you, so know this.
قسمَwas divided الهَوىlove بَينَamong العِباthe servants (word continues)
قسمَ الهَوى بَينَ العِبا
دِcompletion of 'servants' فَلَيتَهُso would that it لَمnot يُقسَمِbe divided
دِ فَلَيتَهُ لَم يُقسَمِ
Love was divided among the ser—
—vants; would that it had not been divided!
سَهمٌone share عَلىupon أَهلِthe people of الهَوىlove
سَهمٌ عَلى أَهلِ الهَوى
وَعَلَيَّand upon me تِسعَةُnine أَسهُمِshares
وَعَلَيَّ تِسعَةُ أَسهُمِ
One share falls upon those who love,
and upon me, nine shares.
