يا داني الدَّار في الأَماني

يا داني الدَّار في الأَماني

وَنازِعَ الدَّار في العِيانِ

وَنازِعَ الدَّار في العِيانِ

O you whose dwelling is near in my wishes,

O you who dwell in my hopes and dreams

Yet whose dwelling is distant to the eye.

Yet truly dwell in a distant place

ذِكراكَ دانِ وَأَنتَ نائي

ذِكراكَ دانِ وَأَنتَ نائي

فَأَنتَ نائي وَأَنتَ داني

فَأَنتَ نائي وَأَنتَ داني

The memory of you is near, though you are far away;

Your memory comes, though you're far away

So you are far away, and yet you are near.

So you are far, yet you feel close to me

نَفسُكَ موصولَةٌ بِنَفسي

نَفسُكَ موصولَةٌ بِنَفسي

وَأَنتَ كَالنَّجمِ مِن مَكاني

وَأَنتَ كَالنَّجمِ مِن مَكاني

Your soul is joined to mine,

Our souls are joined though bodies apart

Yet from where I am, you are like a star.

You're like a star sparkling from afar

لي فِكَرٌ فيكَ مُعجباتٌ

لي فِكَرٌ فيكَ مُعجباتٌ

في اللَّفظِ صفرٌ مِنَ المَعاني

في اللَّفظِ صفرٌ مِنَ المَعاني

I have thoughts of you, wondrous

My thoughts of you are filled with wonder

In wording, but empty of meaning.

Though words are lacking to express these thoughts

تَجري ضُروبٌ مِنَ التَّمَنِّي

تَجري ضُروبٌ مِنَ التَّمَنِّي

في كُلِّ يَومٍ عَلى لِساني

في كُلِّ يَومٍ عَلى لِساني

Different kinds of wishes flow

Each day my tongue voices yearning

Every day upon my tongue.

For you, though our eyes never meet

أَقولُ حَتّى كَأَنَّ عَيني

أَقولُ حَتّى كَأَنَّ عَيني

تَراكَ مِن حَيثُ لا تَراني

تَراكَ مِن حَيثُ لا تَراني

I speak until it is as though my eye

My eyes dream they look on you

Sees you from where you do not see me.

While you cannot see me from your place

إِذا رَكِبتَ الذُّنوب مِنِّي

إِذا رَكِبتَ الذُّنوب مِنِّي

رَدَدتُ لَومي عَلى الزَّمانِ

رَدَدتُ لَومي عَلى الزَّمانِ

If you commit wrongs against me,

When drowned by my sins, I blame only

I turn my blame upon time.

The times, not you, my guiding star
