You who bid me farewell, pause a little while.
My farewell, stay a little while
For farewell takes lovers captive.
For lovers, farewells are hard to bear
ألاwill you not تتعطفينَshow tenderness; bend وأنتِand you are غصنٌa bough
ألا تتعطفينَ وأنتِ غصنٌ
ألاwill you not تتلفتينَturn to look back وأنتِand you are ظَبْيُa gazelle
ألا تتلفتينَ وأنتِ ظَبْيُ
Will you not bend with tenderness, when you are a bough?
Will you not show mercy, being a branch still green?
Will you not look back, when you are a gazelle?
Will you not turn back, being a gazelle so fair?
