علَّمتَ ليثَ الشرى وثوباً

علَّمتَ ليثَ الشرى وثوباً

والسحبَ علَّمتهنَّ هطْلا

You taught the lion of al-Sharā to leap,

You taught the lion evil and clothing

and taught the clouds to pour down rain.

And taught the clouds downpour

حاشاكَ ذمٌّ وكلُّ ضدٍّ

حاشاكَ ذمٌّ وكلُّ ضدٍّ

فصحَّ قولي حاشا وكلاَّ

فصحَّ قولي حاشا وكلاَّ

Reproach and every foe keep clear of you,

Far be from you blame and all opposition

so my words 'Far be it!' and 'Never!' ring true.
