أَمَتي الضعيفةَ عنهُ طبعي نافرُ
When this Jewish physician sees
This Jewish doctor, when he sees
my frail slave girl, my nature recoils from him.
My weak servant, his nature abhors her.
أأصونُهاdo I shield her? عنْfrom أختهاher sister شمسِthe sun الضحىmidmorning
أأصونُها عنْ أختها شمسِ الضحى
ويرىand he sees محاسنَهاher charms العدوُّthe enemy الكافرُthe unbelieving one
ويرى محاسنَها العدوُّ الكافرُ
Do I shield her from her sister, the midmorning sun,
Shall I protect her from her sister, the morning sun,
while the unbelieving enemy sees her charms?
While the unbelieving enemy sees her beauty?
