للهِTo God (expressing admiration) وردٌa rose سرَّناgladdened us
للهِ وردٌ سرَّنا
فيin كلِّevery عامٍyear قربُهُits nearness
في كلِّ عامٍ قربُهُ
What a wondrous rose! It gladdened us
For God is a secret rose
With its nearness every year.
That each year draws us near
أذكرنيreminded me بشمِّهِby smelling it
أذكرني بشمِّهِ
وَجْنَةَthe cheek منْthe one whom أحبُّهُI love him
وَجْنَةَ منْ أحبُّهُ
Smelling it reminded me
Remind me with its fragrance
Of the cheek of the one I love.
The garden of those I hold dear
