نريدُwe wish لأهلِfor the people of مصرٍEgypt كلَّevery خيرٍgood
نريدُ لأهلِ مصرٍ كلَّ خيرٍ
وقصدُهُمْand their intent لناtoward us حتفٌdeath وحيفُand injustice
وقصدُهُمْ لنا حتفٌ وحيفُ
We wish the people of Egypt all that is good;
We wish for Egypt’s people all good
yet their intent toward us is death and injustice.
Yet their aim for us is ruin and wrong
وهلand can…? يسموrise high لأهلِfor the people of الشامِal-Sham رمحٌa spear
وهل يسمو لأهلِ الشامِ رمحٌ
إذاwhen استولىgained mastery علىover العربانِthe Arab tribes سيفُa sword
إذا استولى على العربانِ سيفُ
And can a spear rise for the people of al-Sham
Can a lance ascend for Syria’s folk
when a sword holds sway over the Arab tribes?
