قالوا أيؤذيكَ ولمْ تهجُهُ
فقلتُso I said بعضُsome of الشرِّthe evil يكفينيis enough for me
فقلتُ بعضُ الشرِّ يكفيني
They said, “Does he harm you, though you have not satirized him?”
They said, "Does he hurt you, and you do not satirize him?"
So I said, “Some evil is enough for me.
So I said, "Some harm is enough for me.
قدْindeed ضرَّhe harmed دنيايmy worldly life فإنْso if أهجُهُI satirize him
قدْ ضرَّ دنياي فإنْ أهجُهُ
تطرَّقَfound its way الضرُّthe harm إلىinto دينيmy faith
تطرَّقَ الضرُّ إلى ديني
He has harmed my worldly life; so if I satirize him,
He has harmed my world, so if I satirize him,
the harm will find its way into my faith.”
