These eighty verses give no delight

These are eighty verses that give no delight

to my hearing or my sight; they resemble serpents.

To ear or eye; they resemble serpents.

قالوا أنينُكَ طولَ الليلِ يقلقُنا

قالوا أنينُكَ طولَ الليلِ يقلقُنا

فما الذي تشتكي قلتُ الثمانينا

فما الذي تشتكي قلتُ الثمانينا

They said, “Your moaning all night long troubles us.

They said, “Your moaning all night troubles us;

What is it you suffer from?” I said, “My eighty years.”

So what do you complain of?” I said, “The eighty.”
