ما قضاءُ الشامِ إلا شرفٌ

ما قضاءُ الشامِ إلا شرفٌ

ولمنْ يتركُهُ أعلى شرفْ

ولمنْ يتركُهُ أعلى شرفْ

The judgeship of al-Sham is nothing but an honor;

The decree of Damascus is nothing but honor,

And greater honor belongs to whoever relinquishes it.

And for he who leaves it, higher honor.

يا أبا اليسرِ لقدْ أذكرنا

يا أبا اليسرِ لقدْ أذكرنا

فعلُكَ المشكورُ أفعالَ السلفْ

فعلُكَ المشكورُ أفعالَ السلفْ

O Abu al-Yusr, we have indeed been reminded,

O Abu Al-Yusr, indeed you have reminded us,

By your praiseworthy deed, of the deeds of our predecessors.

So your appreciated deed is like deeds of ancestors.
