فضلٌbounty لديكَin your possession اكتسىclothed himself بهْin it
فضلٌ لديكَ اكتسى بهْ
مَنْwhoever أمَّهُsought it لاكتسابِهْto acquire it
مَنْ أمَّهُ لاكتسابِهْ
The bounty you possess has clothed
A virtue you possess, embrace it
whoever sought it to acquire it.
Whoever's mother desired it for him
لوif سِيمَwere priced نفساًa life شرىbought بهْwith it
لو سِيمَ نفساً شرى بهْ
مَنْwhoever ذاقَtasted طعمُtaste شرابهْits drink
مَنْ ذاقَ طعمُ شرابهْ
Were it priced at a life, that price would be paid
If a soul bought evil with it
by whoever has tasted its drink.
Whoever tasted the flavor of its drink
كمْhow many عالمٍa scholar قدْindeed سرىjourneyed by night بهْwith it
كمْ عالمٍ قدْ سرى بهْ
ماnot نالَattained لَمْعَgleam سرابهْits mirage
ما نالَ لَمْعَ سرابهْ
How many a scholar has journeyed by night with it,
How many scholars secretly held it
yet never reached the gleam of its mirage!
But did not obtain the mirage of its gleam
يطوِّلُprolongs مَنْwhoever مشىwalked بهْwith it
يطوِّلُ مَنْ مشى بهْ
يجوزُpasses beyond منهُfrom him مشابِهْhis gray hair
يجوزُ منهُ مشابِهْ
Whoever walks with it prolongs his journey;
It lengthens whoever walked with it
his gray hair outpaces him.
It rewards whoever emulated it
ينالُgains طيبَsweetness الجنىthe fruit بهْthrough it
ينالُ طيبَ الجنى بهْ
منْwhoever لمْdid not يَحُلْdepart عنْfrom جنابِهْits side
منْ لمْ يَحُلْ عنْ جنابِهْ
Through it, the sweetness of the fruit is gained
It brings pleasant gains to whoever obtained it
by whoever has not departed from its side.
Who did not distance himself from its pursuit
بالعبدِin the servant شوقٌlonging ثوىhas dwelt بهْin him
بالعبدِ شوقٌ ثوى بهْ
فاغنمْso reap جزيلَabundant ثوابِهْits reward
فاغنمْ جزيلَ ثوابِهْ
Longing has lodged within this servant;
A servant has an ardent love for it
so reap its abundant reward.
So gain its abundant reward
فماso not يزالُceases الجوىheartache بهْin him
فما يزالُ الجوى بهْ
إلىuntil وصولِarrival جوابِهْthe reply to him
إلى وصولِ جوابِهْ
And so heartache stays with him
His passion for it does not cease
until the reply to him arrives.
