جاءَتْ منَ المشرقِ لا مالُنا

جاءَتْ منَ المشرقِ لا مالُنا

في عينها شيءٌ ولا جاهُنا

في عينها شيءٌ ولا جاهُنا

She came from the East; neither our wealth

She came from the east, we had no money

nor our prestige counts for anything in her eyes.

In her eyes we had nothing, nor our status

وقالتِ احذرْ فأنا فتنةٌ

وقالتِ احذرْ فأنا فتنةٌ

للناسِ والفتنةُ منْ ها هنا

للناسِ والفتنةُ منْ ها هنا

And she said, “Beware, for I am a temptation

And she said beware, for I am temptation

to people—and temptation comes from right here.”
