مؤذِّنناour muezzin إنْwhen دعاhe calls للصلاةِto prayer
مؤذِّننا إنْ دعا للصلاةِ
رأيتَyou see محبيهِhis admirers جاؤواthey came زمرْin groups
رأيتَ محبيهِ جاؤوا زمرْ
Our muezzin, when he calls to prayer,
you see his admirers coming in throngs.
كأنَّas though المنارةَthe minaret مِنْfrom تحتِهِbeneath him
كأنَّ المنارةَ مِنْ تحتِهِ
قضيبُa slender bough نقاa sand dune مثمرٌbearing fruit بالقمرْwith the moon
قضيبُ نقا مثمرٌ بالقمرْ
It is as though the minaret beneath him
were a bough on a sand dune, bearing the moon as fruit.
