يا شيخُ خلِّ التصابي

يا شيخُ خلِّ التصابي

فالزهدُ بالشيخِ أليقْ

فالزهدُ بالشيخِ أليقْ

O old man, give up youthful dalliance;

O Sheikh, leave abstinence aside

for asceticism is more fitting for an old man.

Asceticism suits the Sheikh

ولا تَحُثَّ كميتاً

ولا تَحُثَّ كميتاً

فإنَّ فودك أبلقْ

فإنَّ فودك أبلقْ

And do not keep quaffing dark-red wine,

And urge not a surfeited man

for the hair at your temple is piebald.

For your agenda is most eloquent
