يا عُدَّتي يا عُمدتي
ياO قُدوتيmy exemplar ياO جابريmy comforter
يا قُدوتي يا جابري
O my support, O my mainstay,
O my reliance, O my pillar,
O my exemplar, O my comforter,
O my exemplar, O my consoler,
إنْif لمْnot أجئْI come معزِّياًoffering condolences
إنْ لمْ أجئْ معزِّياً
كنْbe فيin انقطاعيmy absence عاذريone who excuses me
كنْ في انقطاعي عاذري
If I do not come to offer condolences,
If I do not come to give solace,
excuse me for my absence.
Then in my absence, make excuses for me.
كمْmany a حاضرٍone present كغائبٍlike one absent
كمْ حاضرٍ كغائبٍ
وغائبٍand one absent كحاضرِlike one present
وغائبٍ كحاضرِ
Many a person present is like one absent,
How many are present like absent,
and one absent is like one present.
And absent like present.
