يا صاحباً كانَ لي وفيَّاً
وبيand toward me حفيَّاًattentive فعادَthen became نَذْلاa scoundrel
وبي حفيَّاً فعادَ نَذْلا
O friend who was loyal to me,
O friend, who was loyal and true to me
And attentive to me, then became a scoundrel:
Yet turned ungrateful and mean
قدْmay يستحيلُturn into المدامُthe wine خَلاًّvinegar
قدْ يستحيلُ المدامُ خَلاًّ
ويستحيلُand turns into الطعامُthe food زَبْلاdung
ويستحيلُ الطعامُ زَبْلا
Wine may turn into vinegar,
Wine may turn to vinegar one day
And food turns into dung.
And food may turn to garbage someday
