ما حرمك الشاربُ فارغيْ حقي
O crimson of his luscious, lightning-bright cheek!
O rosy cheek, lightning flash of beauty,
The moustache has not made you forbidden; so heed my right [uncertain verb].
Why did the drinker deny you your due?

His two lips were a casket of lovely pearls,
Your lips were meant for pure wine to kiss.
And the moustache has come as the casket’s lid.
Yet the drinker came and hid the truth.
