يا معشرَ الأصحابِ إني امرؤٌ
تسرُّنيdelights me رفعةُadvancement أصحابيmy friends
تسرُّني رفعةُ أصحابي
O company of friends, I am a man
O companions, I am but a man
who delights in my friends' advancement.
Who takes pride in the nobility of his companions.
لاno بدَّescape ليfor me مِنْfrom حاجةٍa need فلتكنْso let it be
لا بدَّ لي مِنْ حاجةٍ فلتكنْ
إلىto صديقٍa friend فَهْوَfor he أَوْلَىmore fitting بيfor me
إلى صديقٍ فَهْوَ أَوْلَى بي
I am bound to have some need; let it be
I am in need of something, so let it be
addressed to a friend, for he is the worthier choice for me.
From a friend, for he is the closest to me.
