قدْ ماتَ شيخي فاظهروا

قدْ ماتَ شيخي فاظهروا

بحربِهِ أو سِلْمِهِ

بحربِهِ أو سِلْمِهِ

My teacher has died, so show yourselves,

My sheikh has passed away, so show

at war with him or at peace with him.

Through war or peace, the way we'll go

عيشوا بجهلٍ بعدَهُ

عيشوا بجهلٍ بعدَهُ

ها قد قضى بعلمِهِ

ها قد قضى بعلمِهِ

Live in ignorance after him;

Live on in ignorance when he's gone

behold, he has died, taking his knowledge with him.

For he has left us his wisdom
