طالَ ليلي ولي جفونٌ قصارٌ

طالَ ليلي ولي جفونٌ قصارٌ

هنَّ في ربعكم جوارٍ وكنَّسْ

هنَّ في ربعكم جوارٍ وكنَّسْ

My night has grown long, and my eyelids are short.

My night grew long, while my eyelids remained short,

They roam and hide within your dwelling.

roaming around in your neighborhood, so very close.

واعتقدتُ الصباحَ ماتَ ولو

واعتقدتُ الصباحَ ماتَ ولو

لمْ يكنِ الصبحُ ميِّتاً لتنفسْ

لمْ يكنِ الصبحُ ميِّتاً لتنفسْ

And I believed the morning had died; and if

I thought the dawn had died, but even if

dawn were not dead, it would have breathed.

the dawn had not died, it would have breathed anew.
