لُقِّيتِ خبراً يا نوى

لُقِّيتِ خبراً يا نوى

وحُرستِ منْ ألمِ النوى

وحُرستِ منْ ألمِ النوى

May you receive tidings, O Nawa,

News reached me, O Nawaa

And be protected from the pain of separation.

And I was guarded from the pain of love

فلقدْ نشابكِ زاهدٌ

فلقدْ نشابكِ زاهدٌ

في العلمِ أخلصَ ما نوى

في العلمِ أخلصَ ما نوى

For an ascetic indeed grew up in you;

Indeed an ascetic became intertwined

In learning, he was sincere in his intent.

In knowledge, the purest of intentions

وعلى عداهُ فضلُهُ

وعلى عداهُ فضلُهُ

فضلُ الحبوبِ على النوى

فضلُ الحبوبِ على النوى

And his superiority over his enemies

And over his enemies is his superiority

Is that of grains over fruit stones.

Like the superiority of grains over chaff
