خلِّ بِكراً أو عجوزاً

خلِّ بِكراً أو عجوزاً

فهما آفةُ مالكْ

فهما آفةُ مالكْ

Leave a maiden or an old woman alone,

Whether young or old

for both are a bane to your wealth.

They are the ruin of your wealth

وإذا رمْتَ صلاحاً

وإذا رمْتَ صلاحاً

فَعَوانٌ بينَ ذلكْ

فَعَوانٌ بينَ ذلكْ

And if you seek well-being,

But if you seek goodness

then choose a middle-aged woman between the two.

Moderation lies between them
