إنَّ الأرقاءَ غلاظٌ لُؤَما

إنَّ الأرقاءَ غلاظٌ لُؤَما

وكلُّ مَنْ جرَّب هذا عَلِمَا

وكلُّ مَنْ جرَّب هذا عَلِمَا

Indeed, slaves are coarse and base,

The sleepless nights are so oppressive,

And everyone who has experienced this knows.

And all who have experienced this know,

ما أطيبَ المالَ وأحلى النِّعَما

ما أطيبَ المالَ وأحلى النِّعَما

لولا مقاساةُ العبيدِ والإما

لولا مقاساةُ العبيدِ والإما

How delightful wealth would be, and how sweet blessings would be,

How sweet is wealth and how lovely comfort,

Were it not for the hardship of dealing with male and female slaves.

If not for the suffering of slaves and serfs.
