إذا أخَّرْت كتبَكَ عنْ محبٍّ

فإنكَ قدْ حشوتَ حشاهُ نارا

If you delay your letters to one who loves you,

If you withheld your books from a lover

Then you have indeed filled his heart with fire.

You have stuffed his heart with fire

وإنْ أعرضتَ يوماً عن صديقٍ

وإنْ أعرضتَ يوماً عن صديقٍ

فقد حملتَهُ في الناسِ عارا

فقد حملتَهُ في الناسِ عارا

And if one day you turn away from a friend,

And if you turned away one day from a friend

Then you have made him bear shame among people.

You have carried for him amongst people shame
