فقلتُ ماذا قيل منطيقي
I saw an old man with indistinct speech.
I saw an old man with a wine jug
So I asked, “What?” The reply was, “A logician.”

قلتُI said اشتغلbusy yourself بالفقهِwith jurisprudence منْfrom قبلِbefore ذاthis
قلتُ اشتغل بالفقهِ منْ قبلِ ذا
أتشربُdo you drink? الخمرَthe wine علىon الريقِan empty stomach (literally, saliva)
أتشربُ الخمرَ على الريقِ
I said, “Apply yourself to jurisprudence before this.
