عجبتُI marveled لمنْat the one who تعمَّدَhe deliberately undertook بَخْسَdiminishing حقِّيmy due
عجبتُ لمنْ تعمَّدَ بَخْسَ حقِّي
نوىhe intended قصريmy shortening بهِthrough it فازدادَso increased طوليmy height
نوى قصري بهِ فازدادَ طولي
I marveled at him who deliberately denied me my due.
I'm amazed at one who deliberately sought to diminish my rights
He meant thereby to make me shorter, yet I grew taller.
He meant my failure, yet caused me to prosper
فعلمنيso he taught me بهِthrough it إعزازَhonoring نفسيmyself
فعلمني بهِ إعزازَ نفسي
ونبهنيand he alerted me علىto طيبِsweetness الخمولِobscurity
ونبهني على طيبِ الخمولِ
So, through it, he taught me to honor myself,
So he taught me through this to honor myself
And awakened me to the sweetness of obscurity.
And alerted me to the goodness of tranquility
