لمْ أجمعِ المالَ فَخْراً

ولا لحرصٍ وغَفْلَهْ

I did not amass wealth out of pride,

I did not amass wealth out of pride

Nor out of greed and heedlessness,

Nor out of greed or neglect

لكنْ ليسترَ وجهي

لكنْ ليسترَ وجهي

عنِ الخضوعِ لسفلهْ

عنِ الخضوعِ لسفلهْ

But so it might shield my face

But to veil my face

From submission to the ignoble.

From having to bow to the lowly
