أضحى يصادرُ سادةً وصدرورا
I complain to the Most Merciful of Lu’lu’, who
I complain to the Merciful of a pearl which
has taken to extorting lords and dignitaries.
Has become, seizing chiefs and breastplates,
نثرَhe scattered الجنوبَthe flanks بلnay القلوبَthe hearts بسوطِهِwith his whip
نثرَ الجنوبَ بل القلوبَ بسوطِهِ
فمتىso when أشاهدُI behold لؤلؤاًLu’lu’ (pearl) منثوراscattered
فمتى أشاهدُ لؤلؤاً منثورا
He scattered flanks—nay, hearts—with his whip.
Scattering the South, nay hearts, with its whip—
So when shall I behold Lu’lu’ scattered?
So when will I look upon a pearl made free?
