بيَ هيفاءُ منْ بناتِ العِراقْ

أطلقتْ أدمعي وشدَّتْ وثاقْ

أطلقتْ أدمعي وشدَّتْ وثاقْ

I am smitten with a slender-waisted maiden from among Iraq’s daughters.

With radiant beauty of Iraqi girls

She set my tears free and tightened my bonds.

She released my tears and tightened the bond

ثم قالت إنْ جئتَ من باب

ثم قالت إنْ جئتَ من باب

بالعطايا رأيتَ بابَ طاقْ

بالعطايا رأيتَ بابَ طاقْ

Then she said, “If you come through a gate

Then said, if you come through the door

with gifts, you will see the Gate of Taq.”

With gifts, you will find an open door
