جائعٌ طامعٌ طلوعٌ غشومٌ
عمَّencompassed فيin جورِهِhis tyranny الأنامَhumankind جميعاall
عمَّ في جورِهِ الأنامَ جميعا
Hungry, greedy, ambitious, ruthless;
Hungry, greedy, hopeful, cruel
his tyranny encompassed all humankind.
He oppressed all people with his tyranny
صفرbecame empty (echoing Safar) الربْعُthe dwelling فيin المحرَّمِMuharram منْهُbecause of him
صفر الربْعُ في المحرَّمِ منْهُ
ليسَhe is not محرِّماًone who forbids (echoing Muharram) بلbut rather ربيعاspring (echoing Rabi‘)
ليسَ محرِّماً بل ربيعا
Because of him, the dwelling lay empty in Muharram;
Spring was absent in his realm
he is no “forbidder,” but a “spring”—Rabi‘.
Not forbidden, but a wasteland of misery
