كَمْ مِنْ صديقٍ صدوقِ الودِّ تحسبُهُ
فيin راحةٍease ولديهِand he has الهمُّworry والنَّكَدُand distress
في راحةٍ ولديهِ الهمُّ والنَّكَدُ
How many a friend, sincere in his affection, you suppose
How many a friend, sincere in affection, you deem
To be at ease, though worry and distress are with him.
At peace, while grief and sorrow his bosom teem!
لاdo not تغبطنَّever envy بنيthe children of الدنياthis world بنعمتهمfor their prosperity
لا تغبطنَّ بني الدنيا بنعمتهم
فراحةُfor the peace القلبِof the heart لمhas not يظفَرattained بهاwith it أحدُanyone
فراحةُ القلبِ لم يظفَر بها أحدُ
Do not envy the children of this world for their prosperity,
Enjoy not the days of the world and its favors vain;
For no one has attained peace of heart.
The heart's repose not one of its gifts may gain.
