تمنَّى القضا فاقداً شرطَهُ

تمنَّى القضا فاقداً شرطَهُ

وليسَ رضيِّاً ولا مُرْتضى

وليسَ رضيِّاً ولا مُرْتضى

He wished for the judgeship, though lacking its qualification,

I wish fate had lost its clause,

and he is neither commendable nor acceptable.

Neither pleased nor content.

سألتُ الإلهَ لهُ خيبةً

سألتُ الإلهَ لهُ خيبةً

وأَنْ يجعلَ الموتَ قبلَ القضا

وأَنْ يجعلَ الموتَ قبلَ القضا

I asked God to grant him disappointment,

I asked God to disappoint it,

and to make death precede the judgeship.

And to make death come before fate.
