قدْindeed شينَhas been marred مَنْwhoever بالشينِwith shīn منطقُهُhis speech
قدْ شينَ مَنْ بالشينِ منطقُهُ
فيin عينِthe eye (also ʿayn) راءٍa beholder (also rāʾ) ذالِهِhis dhāl كافيsufficient
في عينِ راءٍ ذالِهِ كافي
He whose speech uses shīn has indeed been marred,
The one whose speech is vile disgraces himself
In a beholder’s eye; his dhāl is enough.
In the eyes of the beholder, that is enough
لاdo not تجعلواmake بالشينِwith shīn نطقَكُمُyour speech
لا تجعلوا بالشينِ نطقَكُمُ
فسبَّكمْfor he cursed you بالزينِwith zayn والقافِand qāf
فسبَّكمْ بالزينِ والقافِ
Do not make your speech with shīn,
Do not let your speech be vile
For he has cursed you with zayn and qāf.
Rather, adorn it with beauty and eloquence
